What’s on UniTube: Kingston flaunts its big space; New Bucks’ edgy portfolio; Kansas placements are happy

If Covid still didn’t have a death grip on the country, this would be the time you would see a flood of beautiful campus videos making the library look like a trip to John Lewis, unless you’re based in New York City and still riding the high of your Estates Team shovelling snow.

So, we returned to the new year full of optimism and the idea that things might be a little more normal for 2021/22 term… Let’s see how that’s playing out in university videos.

University of Southampton - Waterfront Campus Tour

Southampton showcases its unique waterfront campus. I bet they had a “whale” of a time editing this one… Sorry, bad joke. But I did it on “porpoise.”

Kingston University -  Town House Video Tour

Kingston Flaunts its new Town House building. I’m a big fan of all the super wide shots and slow pacing which serve the enormity of the space. As building tours go, this one feels distinctive and memorable.

Buckinghamshire New University - Portfolio Showreel Advice

Digital Ambassador Sean makes me feel completely undeserving of my current role, but offers some fantastic industry advice. The cherry on top is that this could happily work as YouTube content not tied to a university. Would feel at home on a channel like Peter McKinnon’s and likely get many, many more views.

The University of Kansas - Jayhawk builds her career from the ground up

This may be the first time I’ve seen anything similar to a “placement year” put forward in America. Short, happy and upbeat, you leave feeling like University of Kansas was a great fit for this student.

From a filmmaking perspective, anytime you can show a student working in a modern high fidelity office… It’s a big win.

Massachusetts Institute of The Future

MIT show what could be a vision of the future: Campuses with medical facilities becoming vaccination hubs for local communities.
